Chemonics seeks a deputy chief of party for the anticipated five year, $53 to $55 million USAID Reading Improvement for Development program in Honduras. The program will support the government of Honduras, in collaboration with other donors, civil society, and the private sector, in improving reading outcomes of Honduran students in Grades 1 to 6. The program will 1) strengthen the Ministry of Education's capacity to implement evidence-based reading approaches in basic education; 2) improve school and classroom materials to enhance reading instruction; 3) improve capacity of teachers and key support personnel to provide quality reading instruction to students in Grades 1 to 6; and 4) strengthen parental and community participation leading to improved learning and reading achievement. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
Responsibilities include:
- Manage the technical activities and implementation of the program, including coordination and supervision of technical experts and consultants
- Support the chief of party in providing overall program leadership, management, and technical direction to ensure all activities, staff, and partners achieve targeted results and meet reporting requirements
- Support the chief of party in liaising with USAID, the Honduran government, and other relevant counterparts and implementing partners
- Serve as the acting chief of party in the chief of party's absence
Qualifications:
- Master's degree or foreign equivalent in education, management, social sciences, development studies, or other relevant field; or a bachelor's degree with five years of relevant international development experience in the education sector
- Minimum eight years of demonstrated experience in the successful implementation of international development activities required, including at least three years in senior program management and direct supervision of professional and support staff
- Experience working in the education sector in Latin America; experience in Honduras preferred
- Experience in policy advocacy, monitoring and oversight, capacity development in education sector, and experience in awarding and managing grants to local organizations to promote education-related goals preferred
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
- Professional fluency in written and spoken Spanish required; professional fluency in written and spoken in English preferred
