Founded in 1961, Project Concern International (PCI) is an international non-profit organization that empowers people to enhance health, end hunger, and overcome hardship. Last year alone, PCI served more than 19 million people in 15 countries across Asia, Africa, and the Americas. Since 1991, PCI/Nicaragua has implemented a diverse portfolio of community-based programs in both rural and urban areas to improve health, improve resiliency, and promote the empowerment of vulnerable communities. PCI currently works in 15 municipalities and in 946 communities throughout Nicaragua.
PCI is recruiting for an Innovation Specialist for an anticipated five year, multi-million dollar USAID-funded project designed to support the existence of an independent Nicaraguan civil society to effectively advocate for democratic principles, processes, and institutions. The Innovation Specialist will oversee the project’s innovation component which will support the testing, piloting and scaling of innovative concepts which seek to solve civil society challenges.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of a three-tiered grant competition which will fund the review, testing, piloting and scaling of social innovations that strengthen civil society.
- Test innovations for technical, organization, distribution and financial viability.
- Analyze effectiveness of initiatives that leverage multi-platform technologies.
- Coordinate with Grants Manager and other key staff to oversee the grant application process and the subsequent monitoring and evaluation of the impact of innovation grants.
- Engage with and promote collaboration between CSOs, youth networks, the private sector, the media, academia and other partners and donors.
- Liaise with PCI’s headquarters-based innovation team to create synergies between local-level innovations and PCI’s global innovation platform.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated knowledge of social innovation and ability to foster and environment for ideation, prototyping and production.
- Capacity to evaluate, test and scale ideas from design stage through implementation.
- Experience identifying unique/ high potential impact ideas and forging linkages with academia, media, youth networks, private sector, religious groups, and local entrepreneurs to solve development challenges, preferably in Nicaragua.
- Expertise leveraging multi-platform technologies preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work in complex political environments.
- Strong communication and coordination skills to work with a range of technical staff, CSOs, private sector, and other partners and donors.
- Excellent organizational and program management skills.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- Native Spanish language proficiency with working proficiency in English. Job Location Managua, Nicaragua
