Mayan Families is a growing and vibrant registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides opportunities and assistance to indigenous and impoverished people of Guatemala through a wide variety of programs that focus on education and sustainable community development. We are proud to employ a workforce that is over 80% indigenous Maya.

The Operations Manager oversees the coordination and administration of all aspects of ongoing programs including planning, staffing, and guiding program activities. The Operations Manager will have a hand in all programs, from our microfinance and trade school programs to maternal health and diabetes prevention programs. This position reports to the Mayan Families co-founders.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Planning and Operations

  • Oversee the delivery of all programs and ensure that the activities are in accordance with Mayan Families' mission
  • Develop new initiatives to support the strategic direction of the organization
  • Develop and implement long-term goals and objectives to achieve the successful outcome of the programs

Human Resources and Team Management

  • Recruit, interview and select all English-speaking fundraising staff
  • Coordinate the performance management process for a team of 27 staff
  • Supervise program staff by providing direction, input and feedback
  • Liaise with other managers to ensure effective and efficient program delivery

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Support writing of reports on the programs for management and for funders
  • Ensure that the programs operate within the approved budget
  • Monitor the program activities on a regular basis and oversee the M & E for all programs according to the program evaluation framework
  • Report evaluation findings to Directive Committee and recommend changes to enhance the program, as appropriate

Financial Management

  • Support program managers to prepare financial reports and supporting documentation for funders as outlined in funding agreements
  • Develop an annual budget and operating plan to support the programs
  • Oversee the development of individual budgets by program managers

Requirements

  • At least 4 years experience with 1 year in a management role
  • Knowledge of challenges faced by indigenous people, preferably with regionally specific knowledge
  • Experience working with a cross cultural team, preferably in a developing country
  • Proven financial and program management skills
  • Monitoring and Evaluation experience
  • Experience managing a team
  • Creative, resilient and flexible
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities across many different programs
  • Comfortable speaking in public
  • Native fluency in English and professional fluency in Spanish
