ROLE PURPOSE: The Child Protection Coordinator will act as the technical lead on all child protection-related programming for Save the Children interventions, which includes emergency context: child protection case management, psychosocial support and community based child protection mechanisms. The Child Protection Coordinator will be expected to lead on child protection-related assessments, programme design, implementation, and coordination with stakeholders, in collaboration with the Deputy Program and Advocacy Director and Child Protection Technical Staff. In addition, she/he will oversee the monitoring & evaluation of child protection activities and be responsible for relevant donor reporting. The Child Protection Coordinator will also be expected to play a leadership role within the Guatemala team, supporting and building the capacity of colleagues and mainstreaming child protection across other sector of interventions
REQUERIMENTS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- 3-5 years of experience working in Child Protection within multicultural environments.
• Ability to identify the main gaps in child protection in the given context to inform a
holistic response for children.
• Previous experience in coordinating a team and of project management.
• Knowledge of national and international laws related to child protection.
• Knowledge of the Interamerican Justice System.
• Experience of and commitment to working through systems of community
participation and accountability.
• Experience in capacity building and in strengthening various duty bearers’
understanding of and response to child protection.
• Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy.
• The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult
and sometimes insecure working circumstances.
• Commitment to and understanding of child rights, the aims and principles of Save
the Children, humanitarian standards, and the Code of Conduct.
• Good communication skills in written and spoken English
