Internship Vacancy: Resettlement/Protection Intern

Internship location: UNHCR Field Office Guayaquil (Ecuador) – Resettlement/Protection Unit.

The internship follows UNHCR Guidelines and Procedures for Work Units & Offices Receiving Interns (available at: www.unhcr.ch or www.unhcr.org)

Terms of Reference:

The Intern will be based in the Field Office in Guayaquil and will conduct activities under the office supervision of the Head of Field Office and the technical supervision of the Resettlement Consultant and Senior Protection Assistant.

RESETTLEMENT:

  • Assisting the case workers in the completion of the Registration Resettlement Forms (RRFs) for the final revision of the Resettlement Officer
  • Researching and writing Country of Origin Information (COI) reports
  • Providing information and orientation to individual cases with special protection needs and/or in the process of resettlement
  • Organising, filing and maintaining the Unit’s files on individual cases considered for resettlement
  • Operational support in processing telephone calls, receiving visits, preparing and sending routine correspondence
  • Assisting in completion of all relevant processes for submission/closure/denial of resettlement cases, thereby maintaining the dignity and fairness of the process
  • Assisting in locating applicants, arranging appointments, address information, etc.
  • Providing information and general counselling about Resettlement to interested/referred cases

PROTECTION:

  • Assisting the protection team with individual case management and identification of specific needs for the promotion of durable solutions.
  • Supporting capacity building activities of the implementing partners, public institutions and civil society organizations.
  • Supporting the organization of local events.
  • Participating in meetings and activities with partners and public and private institutions when required.
  • Organizing, filing and maintaining the Unit’s files on individual cases.
  • Supporting with translation of UNHCR documents and communications.

Requirements:

  • University Studies in International Relations, Social Sciences, Law or related. Studies in International Human Rights Law and International Refugee Law highly desirable

  • Fluency in written and oral Spanish and English

  • The period for the Internship will be of 6 months

  • Adaptability to work with vulnerable individuals

  • Capacity to professionally deal with confidential and sensitive information

  • Adaptability to work in an international and multicultural environment.

  • Compensation: PLEASE NOTE THIS IS AN UNPAID INTERNSHIP. There is no possibility of compensation or reimbursement of expenses.

  • Subsequent Employment by UNHCR: There is no expectation of employment at the end of the Internship.

  • Please note this is an international internship. Ecuadorian citizens are not eligible to apply.
